Gentle, Sincere Care for Your Kids

Pediatric Dentistry Is Our Calling

Dr. Neil Hoss has made gentle care with a soft touch his hallmark. We want you to feel comfortable no matter the reason for your visit. This is especially important to us when treating our youngest patients. Children have less experience with dental visits than adults and can be frightened by the prospect of pain, the unfamiliar sights and sounds of dental equipment, and having dental tools used in their mouths. Rest assured, we understand the special considerations of children’s dentistry, and we do our best to ease all concerns from the moment you bring your children into our office for pediatric dentistry in Tolland, CT. We strive to create a relaxing, unintimidating atmosphere in which children can feel completely secure. All members of your family will receive the highest quality of care here. If you have children age two or older, please schedule an appointment for them as soon as possible.

Give Your Kids an Early Start on Good Dental Health

Strong, healthy teeth have their foundation in good dental hygiene habits and nutritional choices. Reinforce these with your children at the earliest age. Help them with regular brushing starting at around 18 months of age, using only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. You can also start flossing their teeth as early as age two. A good rule of thumb is if the teeth are touching, it’s time to start flossing. It’s also critical that you help your kids maintain strong teeth by giving them foods and drinks rich in calcium and limiting those that are high in sugar content. The other important element of good dental health for children is bringing them in for regular checkups and cleanings from Dr. Hoss. For your child’s very first dental visit, try not to build up too much anticipation or fear beforehand. There are a number of children’s books that help explain visits to the dentist in a nonthreatening and even fun way. Follow all these guidelines to keep your kids cavity- and fear-free! Ask us for more information at your next visit.
